Definitely my FAVORITE new band, The Xx have been mashed up with legends Notorious BIG and Tupac. Quix & Elliot mixed this one. It seemed to be live due to the scratching and need of pitch correction on Tupac's verse. Regardless its still a good listen for me and those who are diverse in their music. Enjoy!

For a little more hype around How to Make it in America, Cudi and his crew have released this mixtape as if it were a roster of who’s who right now. But this is quite good, starting early with a current favorite, the remix of Dan Black’s “Symphonies” featuring Cudi, and touching on Chromeo, Lupe and Kenna’s Haiti track, and UK indie firecrackers Florence & The Machine and The XX, among others. In the intro, Cudi says the way to make it in America is to “cut through all the bullshit.” This mix sounds honors that statement. (via Urb.com)

The xx's self-titled debut album ("XX") is surprisingly simplistic and undeniably infectious. Their sound is minimalistic R&B, stripped down to the core essentials: rhythmical seduction. Clean beats laced with provocative, confessional-laden exchanges between dual lead vocalists Romy Madley-Croft and Oliver Sim tap right into the vein of sexuality and vulnerability. The result is intimate, accessible, and easy to shuffle around to on the dance floor which has earned them the right to be showcased at SXSW 2010 (so there)!  Currently on a worldwide tour, they stop in Chicago on April 8th!!! The xx's unconventional, chill-wave approach to R&B casts aside all the unnecessary bells and whistles, but maintains some traditional instrumentation. They achieve their sound by a predominately slow, subtle mix of guitar, bass, drum machine, keyboards and xylophone melodies. The xx emphasize basics in their composition and manage to create a sensitive sense of urgency. This unique style of soft-pop is one of the most innovative albums of 2009.
